Seven Types of Hair Extensions

Our love affair with extensions, going longer can be a pretty big step and quite a commitment: the results are dependent on the type of extensions and the system used to apply them. But with a silly amount of choice out there, how do you figure out what’s right for you?

Consult with us and we will help you find the right choice and colour to suit your current hair. with our free consultation there is no risk.

Keratin Bond/Pre-bonded

pre bond are attached to the hair via little keratin bonds at the tip of the extension which are fused with a little hot tool. These are extremely popular and look great, but require significant upkeep and regular salon appointments for maintenance. As well as that, you need to avoid putting conditioners, oils or heated appliances near the connection, as these things will weaken the bond and possibly lead to your extensions coming out much earlier than they should.

For maximum longevity with this system, remember to condition only the lengths. If you’re blow-drying, dry the lengths first, then tip your head forward to dry your real hair--don’t blast the bonds with heat!

Durability: 3 months, but if you look after them well by yourself you could get 4 or 5 months out of them! I've gone this long in the past.

Tape extensions have been the industry’s whipping boy of late, largely down to the fact that people bandy words like DAMAGING and MATTING around when they’re mentioned.

I’d like to clear up this misconception: tape extensions, if properly applied and cared for and made with good quality hair, are absolutely phenomenal.

They are connected by wide bonds that look like two bits of Sellotape. Your own hair is placed between them and they are clamped around the strands. The wide, rather than skinny bonds, ensure they don’t look stringy and strand-y after a few washes. They’re dreamy, luscious and if you’re kind to them they’ll last for ages.

Durability: Things can get tangled as your own hair starts to grow, but they’ll be good for up to five or even six months without a big maintenance job.

micro rings.  are a very popular system, and the one I've most recently had applied. they are pretty much damage free as there's no glue, no heat, no tape and no sewing. they are applied by single-strand micro ring extensions by clamping the little bead on the tip of the extension to your own hair. The connections are durable but not uncomfortable and best of all, I can cover my hair root to tip in conditioner without a care!

These are probably the best option if you want to be able to dye your extensions, and use lots of products or heat-styling appliances. Melissa was kind enough to supply me with pictures of the magic she creates on a daily basis.

Durability: 3 to 4 months..

LA weave

L.A weave is a technique used to make sewn tracks less visible than your ordinary braided sew-in weaves. It is secured with around 20 micro rings. Causing no stress or damage. This method allows the hair to breathe, and is much easier to shampoo and scratch, without using sharp objects that can injure the scalp.

Easy shrinks/ shrinkies/ shrink- tubes

Easy Shrink Hair Extensions use small, transparent tubes made of a hi-tech polymer. The easy shrink is threaded onto your natural hair using a easy shrink applicator hook and the pre-bonded hair extension is then placed inside the tube along with your natural hair.  A specially designed iron is wrapped around the easy shrink so the heat can release a polymer sealant to complete the attachment.  The easy shrink themselves are lined with a light coating of Keratin, creating a water- tight seal with no slipping. This is a patented, one-of-a-kind hair extension bond requiring absolutely no glue!  An entire head of extensions can take between 2-4 hours to apply, depending on desired result and density of the natural hair. The easy shrink system is designed for up to 3 months wear

mini tubes/ mini links/ mini locks

Mini Tubes. These offer the same support as a standard micro tube, with the added addition of a silicone lining as described in our silicone lined micro ring option above.

Our silicone lined mini micro tubes are a smaller version of the standard micro ring, as the inner diameter of the rings is slightly smaller at 2.5mm, and they are shorter in length measuring approx 4mm.

nano rings

nano rings are a specific type of ring that are to be used with nano tip hair extensions only.  Unlike stick tip hair extensions which can be fitted with either micro rings or micro tubes, nano ring hair extensions can only be fitted with nano rings.  The reason for this is that nano ring hair extensions have been designed to be very small, and the tip of the hair extension is only a millimetre or so wide.  This means that to gain a secure hold, an equally small ring must be used.  Attempting to fit nano ring hair extensions with micro rings or micro tubes will simply not be possible.

Nano rings have an approx inner diameter of 2mm,
